An Option for the Beautiful
Like Dostoyevsky, Carol Brown Goldberg believes that beauty will save the world. Her beauty, as she says, is “an option for the beautiful.” The North American artist, who has assumed the enormous task of guiding abstraction at the dawn of the XXI century, exhibits the paintings she has created over the last four years under the title “Exhibit of Recent Artwork.” The collection, which has already been exhibited in Murcia and Valladolid, can be seen until next August 30th in the Casa de Vacas of the El Retiro Park in Madrid.
Art and Science
Goldberg is inspired by no less than relativity theory and the works of Bertrand Russel and David Bohm. In her paintings she seeks to unite art and science, since “between the two is the potential to change the world.” “My studio resembles a laboratory,” says the artist with a laugh.
In Goldberg’s paintings the time and space coordinates are of special importance. The artist affirms that she needs time in a society dominated by immediacy, hurriedness, and the constant bombardment of images. The artist says, “I could create figurative paintings, for me figurative painting is easy, but I need time. The process is the path.” She adds: “In abstract painting one needs time to arrive from first impressions to the concept.”
Cosmic Circles
Plane superimposition and the abundance of cosmic circles in her representations show us the value of space. The artist explains that “each circle is the life of each person, and at the same time, each of those circles is surrounded by the moment. Many of them form a universe”.
Cosmic variety and the use of crushed glass in pigments are some other key elements in Carol Brown Goldberg’s latest paintings, for which she was inspired by the reflection of water, nature, and light. The result is a new spiritual esthetic in which human warmth is mixed with the matter of the form. “Exhibit of Recent Artwork” arrives in our capital under the sponsorship of the Fundación Cristóbal Gabarrón.
